'Setting the scene for The Bouchard Legacy Elijah Bouchard's home in Ladue, Missouri.
The Bouchard Legacy is my 'window' into boomer days and boomer ways, it's about being a kid, becoming an adult and what it means to 'come of age.'
Life, as lived in the days from 1957, with the civil rights marches, through the JFK assisination, in those heady, heavy days that came crashing down around us in 1979 when American Diplomats were held captive in Iran for over 400 days.
The Bouchard Legacy is available in paperback and Kindle formats

The Bouchard Legacy
Nothing ever came easy for Paul Elser. Randy Allen lived the life of ease. So when their parents marry, it’s no surprise when the two (now brothers) clash over the family fortune. What’s in it for industrious Paul? How will Randy’s impetuosity play out in the course of things?
The Bouchard Legacy; a story of loyalty and greed, a story of prejudice and character; it’s the story of Randy and Paul coming of age in the tumultuous 1960’s and then; their arrival as men in the close of the 1970’s. Set in Mid-America, St Louis, MO

For Schools-Press Release-Those Self Evident Truths
Ted Does School Visits
Ted Magnuson's Those Self Evident Truths, is a 72 minute audio presentation on CD. Ted dramatically reads the Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence, The Preamble to the American Constitution and Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. For students who rely on their ears, this unique presentation brings alive the enduring and fundamental documents of American liberty in a powerful new way.
In this, an election year when the media too often ‘sensationalizes to shock,’ it is more important than ever to see through the blizzard of hype and come in contact the very basis of everyday life in our society--the rule of law our government has been founded on.
For high school students, ‘Truths’ is a great addition to Terry Jordan’s The US Constitution and Fascinating things about it, Agel and Gerberg’s The US Constitution for Everyone, and Linda Monk’s The Words We Live By: Your Annotated Guide to the Constitution
For Middle School students, here is another angle, an audio account of the material the Colliers cover in their American history series including Creating the Constitution.

In these words from our forbearers, in brief accounts of the events leading up to their creation, Ted invites us to reflect on the aims of democracy--on the aims of ‘Nation-building, American style.’ In such a condensed form, one can only marvel at the dedication and vision of those who’ve gone before us.
In our own times, generations still alive have seen the American Experience in Nation-building rebuild Europe after the World Wars. We’ve seen Japan and parts of Korea boosted into the technological age. In many ways and places, America has made its presence known. While Those Self Evident Truths implies no specifics on strategies and tactics, one question Ted can’t help but ask is ‘Can 800 years of struggle and heritage be downloaded into one election cycle?”

Fiction, Coming of Age, Family Life
The formation of the story grew step by step. When 66 Americans were taken hostage in 1979, I sensed the end of an era. Then my two sons began high school, some twenty or so years later. Recollections of my own days growing up came pouring in and across my mind. How to make sense of it all? The Bouchard Legacy is my look backwards, my stab at sensemaking into what I consdered to be a very chaotic time, a time of political assasinations, civil rights and war demonstrations spilling out into the streets
...Of course then along came 9/11 and the terrorists attacks. Growing up in this tumultous world has never been easy, but with a little help from our friends, our relatives, and the lenses proided by art and books, we all do somehow get by. My hope for you, brave reader is that as you read The Bouchard Legacy, you too will recall your own days crossing over the bridge that spans the gap between childhood and adult life.
